Downtown Inc is now accepting reservations for its Hidden Art of York walking tour. The tour is scheduled for Friday, May 2, beginning at 6 p.m. Author and historian Georg Sheets will lead the tours and take you behind the scenes at several historic properties as beautiful and unexpected masterpieces take center stage.

The tour will step off from the lobby of One Market Way West at 6 p.m. and will last approximately two hours. The tour will end at the Yorktowne Hotel where refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Yorktowne.

Participants will have special access to places like the York Water Company, where they will learn about the painted and decorated ceiling, and the brownstone parlor adjacent to Martin Library, with its recently restored frescoes.

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, as past tours have filled up quickly. The cost to participate is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under. Participants may register by phone or email (contact info above) by leaving a message with their name, phone number, and the number of people in their party. Payment will be collected at check-in prior to the tour.

The Hidden Art of York walking tour is the first installment in a series of downtown walking tours designed to highlight York’s distinct history, architecture, and lore. Tours are also scheduled for June 6, October 2, and November 14, each with a different theme. Downtown Inc is a community organization working to facilitate leadership, collaboration, advocacy, and promotion of downtown initiatives in order to improve the overall physical appearance of downtown York, increase foot traffic throughout the downtown district, and communicate to the community at large the positive activities taking place in downtown York.
